Liverpool news: Rio Ferdinand reveals how Reds can beat Real Madrid in Champions League final
Liverpool must use the experience they have built up so far in the Champions League to triumph over Real Madrid in the final this Saturday.
That is the opinion of pundit and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
Liverpool are set to play in their first Champions League final since 2007, which is a stark contrast to Real Madrid’s recent record.
Zinedine Zidane’s side will play in their fourth final in five years and are looking to win the tournament for a third successive season.
Ferdinand says that experience will be vital for Real and makes them favourites.
But he reckons if Liverpool play like they did in the earlier knockout rounds, they will have a great chance in Kiev.
“This game isn’t a given for anyone, it’s a 50-50 in my eyes,” Ferdinand told talkSPORT.
“I think both teams have got some great weapons, obviously the Liverpool front three are devastating and they’ve been in great form all year.
“[Mohamed] Salah stands out among them three but then you’ve got the [Cristiano] Ronaldo factor for Real Madrid.
“Added to that, the experience that team possess, back-to-back finals, this will be the third on the spin if they win it.
“So that experience, in my experience, counts for a lot.
“But if Liverpool handle themselves the way they have in the rounds previous – (Manchester) City no-one fancied them and they then went to Roma and destroyed Roma, done a job on them and looked very convincing in the way that they played.
“If they can take all that experience into this final and they contain their emotions then they’ve got a very, very good chance.”
